Smaller Works

I started my mosaic practice with mirrors and terra cotta flower pots, small and large (and then larger).  I still love making smaller pieces when I have time.  Some aren’t so small anymore.  I now mosaic some large planters – big enough for small trees if desired.  I also make stepping stones – generally they are 12 by 12 or 24 by 24, but they can also be rectangular and the size can vary according to one’s space.  All of these pieces add color, texture and whimsy to a garden, home entrance, parkway, kitchen shelf, bathroom or hall wall.

Customized Project Examples

  • I was commissioned to make 60 stepping stones for a client with a huge native garden; each one is unique.  Some incorporate hobbies and interests of hers and her husband’s, including nature, California flowers, astronomy, organic foods, and entertaining.  Materials include stones and river rock, leftover tiles from bathroom and kitchen projects, Mexican tile that came to me broken. Others incorporate ceramic plates with fruits and vegetables, even wine, cheese and chocolate cake, since this client loves to entertain.  These bring color, interest and playfulness to a magnificent garden in the West Adams neighborhood of Los Angeles.

  • I was commissioned to mosaic a huge planter and created a village scene with a river, village homes, gardens and lots of critters.  This client has planted herbs in the planter.
